At this point, the cost estimate for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia is $2500. Certainly, we understand that it is not likely that you’ll have the full amount of the trip at your fingertips. Below is an estimated payment schedule – the schedule is subject to change and is provided as a guideline for you.

We will be traveling to Sydney, Australia on July 12, 2008. Genesis Ministries has decided to utilize the "simple accommodations" package that is available through WYD2008 to minimize cost and maximize the true pilgrimage experience. What this means: we will likely be sleeping in family homes or school/church floors. 

Along with that decision, Genesis Ministries is requiring all pilgrims to participate in a series of pre-pilgrimage formation opportunities. We will meet monthly for two hours at a time to prepare for the trip, pray together and explore different aspects of our universal Catholic faith. The time of these meetings has not yet been set. Once you register, you will receive information regarding the schedule.

PRAYING FOR AND WITH OUR PILGRIMS

As with any spiritual journey, the prayers of our brothers and sisters in Christ are always helpful and much appreciated. Once we have our group finalized, the names of the pilgrims will appear here. If you would like to "adopt" a specific pilgrim for prayer, please contact us at info@genesis-ministries.org and we will give you some more information about them. You can include them in personal prayer, in the prayer intentions of your community, and/or send them prayerful inspiration and support by email or written word. 

In addition, each month, our pilgrims will be centering their prayer focus on a different area of the globe and a different need within the Church and the world. Those intentions will be listed here, and you can join them in their prayer.

DONATING TO PILGRIMS

You will see above that this pilgrimage to Australia does not come without cost. Though there is some financial assistance available, and efforts will be made to fundraise, most pilgrims will be responsible for finding the means to pay their way. Many of our pilgrims are recent graduates and/or in fields that do not afford them much (if any) disposable income.

The theme for WYD 2008, received from the Holy Father is, "'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.' Acts 1:8" 

Our hope is that the pilgrims traveling to this special gathering of young adults from throughout the world will encounter the transformative Spirit of God in a new, exciting and powerful way, empowering them to live their faith and be witnesses to their peers and the world. Those who have returned from previous World Youth Day experiences have indeed been changed in ways that connect them to Christ and Church in deep, lasting ways. You can read their testimonies soon!
